2017 FBLA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The Georgia Business Education Association (GBEA) awarded five $2,000 scholarships to FBLA students from each of the five regions. The scholarships will be distributed during the 2017 Business and Computer Science (BCS) business luncheon at the 2017 Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education (GACTE) conference this July.
From the Northeast Region, Franklin “Hunter” Perry from Mary Persons High School.
Hunter has worked hard to achieve three CTAE Pathways in Business and Technology, Business Accounting and Advanced Accounting and has received Microsoft certification in Word 2013, Word Master 2013, Excel 2013, and PowerPoint 2013. Mrs. Marcy Sanders writes, “Hunter is a smart, outgoing, energetic, outspoken young teenager. I have witnessed first hand his desire to lead others to achieve his or her goals. He will be recognized in the top 10% of his class and as an honor graduate in May. Hunter is active in Future Business Leaders of America, Interact Club, and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). He has also volunteered with Jay’s Hope, Relay for Life, Anchor of Hope and other organizations. In the classroom, he enjoys helping other students and always completes his work on time.” Hunter has been accepted Georgia Southern University Congratulations, Hunter!
From the North Metro Region, Royce Dickerson from Lambert High School.
Royce has earned the Entrepreneurship Pathway also attends the Early College at University of Alabama where he has completed pre-requisite for his Business major. In addition to his academic and extracurricular successes, he has served as the 2016-2017 Georgia FBLA State President and committed several hours to community service. Royce has also achieved the America level for the FBLA Business Achievement Awards. Ms. Susan Fagan writes, “Because of his motivation and willingness to work so unbelievably hard for FBLA, I consider Royce as one of our most dedicated, outstanding Seniors here at Lambert High School as he has definitely left his mark on our business program all for the better.” Royce has been accepted to Georgia State University. Congratulations, Royce!
From the Northwest Region, Laken Thompson from Bowdon High School.
Laken is a standout student and leader as well as an active participant in athletics and extracurriculars. Laken has earned her Entrepreneurship Pathway. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, serves as Vice President for FBLA, and has served on Student Council all four years. Laken also attends the University of West Georgia with the Move on When Ready program. Mrs. Laura Edwards writes, “Laken is a very hardworking, dedicated person who knows how to set goals and with determination reach them. She is an exemplary student who also displays compassion in her service to others.” Laken has been accepted to University of West Georgia and Louisiana State University. Congratulations, Laken!
From the Central Region, Natalie Smith from Warner Robins High School.
Natalie has earned her Web and Digital Design Pathway and is a member of FBLA, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society and the volleyball team. In addition to her high school involvement, she is dually enrolled at Middle Georgia State University. Mr. Ryan Vandalinda shares, “Natalie puts a great deal of effort into her educational pursuits while still taking time to help others. She is diligent, kind and can multitask with ease. Natalie balances work, high school, college courses, as well as taking on an active role as volunteer at her church.” Natalie has been accepted to Middle Georgia State University. Congratulations, Natalie!
From the South Region, Janya Sims from Tift County High School.
Janya has earned the Business and Technology Pathway as well as Microsoft certification in PowerPoint. She serves as President of FBLA and is a member of BETA Club and JROTC. Despite her busy schedule, she maintains a 4.0 GPA. Ms. Christi Flescher shares, “In addition to being a member of clubs, Janya has also been a participant of our Move on When Ready program. She has been earning high school and college credit through Southern Technical Regional College. While earning her high school and college credit, Janya has put in over 300 hours of community service. She also earned her CNA and utilizes the certificate working at a local nursing home.” Janya has been accepted to Georgia State University. Congratulations, Janya!
